The journey from Bangkok to Chiangmai

After a cheeky night out in Bangkok we decide it was about time to move north! We made arrangements to take an over night bus to Chiangmai, leaving at 8pm and arriving at 6am. Not the most comfortable hostel but it’s a great way to get to a new destination and pay for a nightly accommodation with out blowing budget! We made sure to check multiple places for rates, after finding the average of 700 baht for the VIP bus we negotiated the best price possible which was 650 baht per person. When booking an over night bus be aware of the scams, Vip busses will say they offer wifi. They don’t, all of the busses with have a permanent sign up on the bus claiming the wifi is under repair. Also ensure you know of the stops and or changing of busses. Is food included, and is there a toilet on board. We had a much better bus experience this time around compared to the long journey from the sour to Bangkok. Arrival in Chiangmai the sun was rising the city was still quiet and we were ready to adventure. A free taxi to our hostel was included upon arrival, we didn’t have a hostel booked but we had one in mind. We asked to be dropped there so we loaded into a taxi with way to many people making many stops as every one got out. Then comes our stop, which is a block away from where we stared in the wrong direction. Exhausted and hungry we still found the humour in it and went back to the taxies to ask for another one to the right location this time. They laughed and organized another taxi for us. This time we were dropped at our “hostel” the driver said “just down this alley.” So we walk down the alley to find what used to be a hostel that was fully under construction. We found this hilarious after the hectic journey to find this place. So we set off to find another place. Stopping at a restaurant and ordering something small is always a great way for free wifi access. We ending up finding a decent room for 350 baht with three beds, being very affordable split between the three of us! We rested up and set out into the city of Chiangmai to explore!
